Chrysler Recalls Vehicles for Airbag Deployment and Rollover Risk

Car companies issue major recalls when vehicles are found to be unsafe or when they may pose a hazard to drivers. Unfortunately, not all drivers may be aware that their vehicle is subject to a recall. While manufacturers are required to notify owners about defects, sometimes these notifications fail to inform owners about the seriousness of the issue. Owners are entitled to modifications and repairs, but they must often take their vehicle to customer service centers in order to receive these benefits.

Chrysler recently issued two major recalls of its vehicles that could affect the safety of passengers and drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Chrysler has issued a recall on some of its 2015 Ram ProMaster City vehicles made between November 6, 2014 and March 7, 2015. An installation problem with the vehicle’s side air bags could cause these air bags to fail to inflate properly. As a result of this defect, Chrysler’s affected models fail to meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Unfortunately, if this issue isn’t remedied, passengers are at a greater risk of injury if the air bags fail to deploy. Chrysler is in the process of notifying consumers and will repair the defect free of charge.

Yet, the 2015 Ram ProMaster City vehicles are not the only Chrysler vehicles subject to a recall this year. Earlier this year, according to Edmunds. com, over 25,000 2015 Chrysler 200 sedans were recalled because the vehicles pose a rollaway risk. The automatic transmission can become broken or dislodged, resulting in the driver’s inability to put the car properly into park. Unfortunately, the driver may believe that the vehicle is in park due to the indicator, but the lock may fail to properly engage. This could cause the vehicle to roll away, leading to the risk of death or a car crash. Currently, no injuries or accidents have been reported as a result of this defect. Chrysler will inspect affected transmissions for free, and replace transmissions that have been found defective.

Yet, individuals who have been involved in a car accident with a Chrysler vehicle, or those who have suffered personal injuries in a Chrysler vehicle, may not be informed about these defects. As a result, these individuals may be entitled to personal injury compensation for their medical bills, pain and suffering, or lost wages, but may be unaware that they have legal remedy to collect this money.
